FAQ

Once you go to the Chiropractor, do you have to go the rest of your life?

At Ed Camp Chiropractic, I teach you how to take care of yourself so you can maintain your health with the least amount of Chiropractic intervention. Even though I haven’t had a dental problem in 10 years, my dentist keeps me coming back for checkups. Chiropractic can also be preventative care just like going to the dentist. Chiropractors fix problems and then do our best to assist you in keeping new ones from developing. Even when you feel great, an occasional checkup keeps you functioning at your very best.

Does chiropractic hurt?

The answer here is no. If the area we are treating is sensitive, the point that we adjust can be a little sore for a moment. Usually, people with acute conditions feel some degree of relief within minutes of their adjustment. Usually there is no pain whatsoever, and patients look forward to their adjustments.

How long does it take?

The initial exam takes from one and a half to two hours. Each treatment session takes about 45 minutes to an hour. (If you are Chiropractor shopping, ask them how much time the initial exam and subsequent visits will take.) Sadly based on the lower reimbursement rates from carriers, many doctors these days are volume oriented as opposed to quality. At Ed Camp Chiropractic, on each visit you will receive your adjustment, some deep tissue massage or inferential current, a modality that reduces swelling spasm and pain and in some cases traction to correct your cervical curve. This three/four pronged approach has been proven highly effective in providing longer lasting relief than the abbreviated treatments currently given at most offices.

How many visits does it take?

This depends on your particular condition. However, the national average is six to nine visits. I will better be able to predict how many visits are necessary after your first examination.

Is chiropractic safe?

Many study’s over the years have concluded that injury related to chiropractic adjustment was less than 1.25 incidents per million treatments. (1) It is interesting to note that very serious complications from aspirin ingestion were 3,000 per one million patients. (2) Chiropractic has been deemed one of the most conservative forms of intervention available today. Some of these studies are: (1) The Manga Report; “A study to examine the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of Chiropractic management of low back pain, Ministry of Health, Government of Ontario Canada 1993” (2) Recent Considerations in Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug Gastropathy: American Journal of Medicine 1998 (July 27): 105 (1B): 31s-38s

How much does it cost?

My initial exam takes about an hour and a half and involves a comprehensive medical history, a detailed physical examination including orthopedic and neurological testing, muscle strength evaluation and postural analysis. I am billing insurance carriers $260 for that level of service, but charge $150 to those who pay at the time service is rendered. If you have a simple case such as an extremity only, the examination takes a half an hour and I charge as low as $60 for an exam of lower complexity. While I don’t shoot X-rays at my office, I have an arrangement with Radnet eight blocks away. For cash patients, cervical x-rays are $65 and lumbar x-rays are approximately $70. There is no charge for Dr. Camp to interpret the results and no charge for a report of findings. For ongoing care, I bill carriers $120 dollars. For the uninsured who pay as services are rendered I charge $60 a visit. I have been told by numerous patients that I charge the going rate for my first visit but give my patients far more time and attention, and I am told my continuing care rates are below the current market levels.
